Spot X has the expertise and experience to design and fabricate any subsea solution you need to achieve your project goals. We specialise in problem solving, so whether you need something deep, something connected, or something completely unique, Spot X can assist.

We can take over at any stage of the project, from conception and initiation, to adding the finishing touches to an existing system. Using a mix of 2D/3D CAD, 3D printing and other rapid prototyping methods, in collaboration with our network of nimble, trusted suppliers, we can have your project up and running in a fraction of the time of larger manufacturing firms.

Check out the gallery below for some of our most recent custom projects, and get in touch for an obligation free chat about how we can help solve your problem.

PAN/TILT 1080P IP CAMERA | Full HD camera with custom pan/tilt system

Spot X was contracted to build this system as part of an underwater archaeological research project. It consisted of 5 underwater cameras, connected together via a central underwater hub, with a single cable to the topside supplying power and handling communications. Because of the small housings, mounted in the horizontal plane, there were no off-the-shelf pan/tilt cameras small enough. We designed this system using IP board cameras with an Arduino Uno running commands to the servos; an ethernet shield enables control of each camera over the network. A custom webpage allowed topside users to pan/tilt/view each of the cameras individually, all on one quad split-screen (video below).

DIVER OPERATED LIVE STREAMING SYSTEM | Full HD GoPro Video For Live Streaming on YouTube

This handheld system was built for a company performing live web streams of their scuba dives to classrooms around Australia as part of National Science Week. The housing uses a GoPro camera, transmitting full 1080P signal to the surface. An internal battery supplies >5 hrs of runtime and the built-in fan keeps the camera cool, eliminating the thermal shutdowns that can affect GoPros. The camera housing is mounted on rails with ergonomic grips and a 1” ball mounting system which the client used to attach high intensity, wide angle video lights.

The topside signal was fed through a Black Magic mixer, and broadcast over the local cellular network using a Teradek Vidiu Go (with both Telstra and Optus sim cards for redundancy). The live dive went for appx 40 mins at a popular shore dive location in Sydney (Ship Rock) with a number of interesting species encountered (Wobbegong, Morey eel, Cuttlefish). Video of the dive can be seen below

LONG TERM REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEM | HD Video with GPS Logger, Remote View/Access

Our university client is conducting a research project requiring long term (7-10 days) HD recording of video in a remote location, with GPS position logged and the ability to remotely view the feed and system status. Spot X built two trials systems each consisting of two full HD cameras, a HD monitor, 2TB SSD DVR and a custom GPS logger. The system is to be operated up to 12 hours a day, using a high capacity lithium or lead acid battery. The cameras are set to record at 10FPS (though 720P/25FPS is possible), all while logging GPS position. Using a cellular hotspot (or vessel internet), users can remotely log in to the system and view the camera feed in real-time, as well as check system status (memory remaining, recording state etc). Images of the setup are below, with a video also showing a trial run of the video collected/geotagged footage.
